Excursion-observation of spring changes in nature

The students of Uzhhorod Lyceum, named after V. Hrendzhi-Donskyi, went on an exciting wildlife observation tour around the school’s surroundings. The students, under the guidance of their biology teacher, Hanna Popovych, discussed their responsible attitude towards nature and closely observed the seasonal changes that came with the arrival of spring.

During the educational walk, the teacher presented the students with a thought-provoking list of questions to investigate throughout the excursion. The children carefully observed the changing look of trees, identified flowering trees and shrubs, noted differences in leaf colors among various tree species, watched for changes in animal behavior, listened for natural sounds, and spotted different bird species in the surroundings. The young explorers honed their skills in identifying early-flowering herbaceous plants based on characteristics such as appearance, leaf shape and size, and flower color encountered along their path. A particularly interesting lesson focused on identifying various types of nettles. A few students dared to verify the accuracy of information regarding non-stinging nettles. This interactive task helped the children develop a stronger bond with nature.

As part of the learning experience, the students were tasked with a homework assignment to draw and describe their most memorable observations, reinforcing the knowledge they had acquired during the excursion. This creative exercise aimed to solidify their understanding and appreciation of the natural world, encouraging them to reflect on their experiences and observations.

The event was held within the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU BundesverbandNABU International), project coordinators  Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
