On May 6, a working meeting was held at the office of the Commission on Ecology of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Diocese on expanding the program of psychological support for servicemen, veterans and their families through naturopathy.
Secretary of the Commission Oleksandr Bokotey met with representatives of the State Institution “Territorial Medical Association of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for the Transcarpathian Region”, the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Transcarpathian Region, units of the National Guard of Ukraine, the Military Chaplaincy Service and the veteran space “Unconquered”. The main topic of discussion was the development of initiatives for the rehabilitation of defenders and their families through interaction with nature.
Each of the guests present is a person who, at the behest of the heart and professional duty, is already making a huge contribution to supporting our soldiers. The participants of the meeting, including both military personnel and veterans, provide defenders and their families with comprehensive support: from legal consultations and social protection to material assistance and psychological recovery. It is especially valuable that experienced comrades who have gone through combat operations know the needs of the military from the inside. This allows the team of like-minded people to act not formally, but to provide the real help that people need most.
The purpose of the meeting was to join forces to create a joint and systemic rehabilitation program. Oleksandr Bokotey shared the successful experience of last year’s events held by the Commission and noted the positive effect of cooperation with the State Institution “TMO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for the Transcarpathian region” (responsible for the institution is the inspector of the sector of social protection and support of victims and their family members Olesya Kanalosh), when the MGKE Environmental Commission organized a vacation in nature for the military from the hospital. This format – “rehabilitation by nature” – turned out to be one of the most popular, because the peace of the environment gives something that office therapy often cannot.
We see great promise in the parishes of the MGKE hosting groups of defenders, organizing retreat programs and outdoor relaxation for them. This will make it possible to create a network of locations for recreation and rehabilitation directly in the communities.
In addition to discussing plans, the participants of the meeting managed to exchange contacts and agree on the first joint steps. We are convinced that only by joining forces will we be able to provide our defenders with a worthy recovery by nature and a sense of a reliable shoulder in the rear.
