Master class on caring for birds

Big changes begin with care – even if it fits in a small feeder. This is exactly the simple but important truth that students of the 3rd grade of Yasinyanskyi ZZSO of I–III levels No. 1 discovered for themselves during an ecological and educational lesson on helping birds in winter.

Big changes begin with care – even if it fits in a small feeder. This is exactly the simple but important truth that students of the 3rd grade of Yasinyanskyi ZZSO of I–III levels No. 1 discovered for themselves during an ecological and educational lesson on helping birds in winter.

The lesson program combined cognitive and creative elements. Students discussed what can and cannot be fed to birds, learned which species winter near us, and also talked about the importance of recycling solid household waste. A workshop on making feeders from PET bottles aroused particular interest, during which the children themselves created useful structures for feeding birds.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of a student of the class, David Aib, who presented his own feeder as part of the winter project “We care about birds. Joint hobbies of parents and children”. His example inspired his classmates to further environmental initiatives.

The feeders created by the third-graders, together with IRCEF eco-trainer Maria Kesler, were filled with a variety of nutritious food and placed on the edge of the forest near Mount Kostirivka.

Such environmental initiatives are of particular importance today, when Ukraine is not only rebuilding cities and villages destroyed by the war, but also taking care of the restoration of the natural environment. Communication with nature, caring for living beings and participation in environmental protection activities contribute to the emotional rehabilitation of children, help restore internal balance, a sense of security and faith in the future. After all, by taking care of nature, we also take care of our own restoration, forming a generation of responsible citizens capable of creating positive changes around them.

The event was held with the participation of children with musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders within the framework of the partnership of the Interreligious and environmental civil forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) with the Commission on Ecology of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Diocese and the environmental protection units of the Churches, with the support of the Archdiocese of Bamberg (Erzbistum Bamberg).
