Installation “Life on a Tree”

The installation “Life on a Tree” is an interactive exhibit featured in the “Nature of Transcarpathia” exhibition at the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Local Lore, named after T. Lehotsky. It is prepared to enhance visitors’ understanding of biodiversity, particularly among children and youth, by showcasing the diverse organisms that call trees their main habitat and life source. Ruslana Dzhahman, a Nature Branch researcher, developed this concept in collaboration with the “Parallel World,” a community that supports people with disabilities, and the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum for Eastern Europe (IRCEF), alongside the support of the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU).

Through the “Life on a Tree” installation, our goal is to engage visitors in a playful exploration of how trees serve as vital homes for a myriad of living organisms, including animals, plants, and fungi. We have made a variety of wooden figurines that depict different animals in order to do this, which may be hung from hooks positioned all around the tree. This interactive game is intended for use during environmental and educational events, frequently hosted for schoolchildren at the museum. One of the advantages of this installation is its adaptability, as it can be easily recreated using various materials such as paper, cardboard, wood, or metal, making it suitable for implementation in a variety of educational, scientific, or cultural settings.

We’re delighted to provide teachers with sketches, drawings, and designs, encouraging them to incorporate these resources into their work!

The installation was prepared within the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband, NABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
