The recently updated section of the “Nature of Transcarpathia” exhibition at the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Local Lore has been enhanced with two exciting additions: a wooden figure of an Aesculapian snake and the “Life in a Tree” exhibition. These additions aim to make the museum visit more engaging and educational, particularly for children and young people. The concept was brought to life by the museum’s Nature Branch researchers, Mykhailo Bilanych and Ruslana Dzhahman, in collaboration with the “Parallel World” community of people with disabilities and the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF), with support from the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU).
The Aesculapian snake (Zamenis longissimus) is depicted in its largest known size, measuring 2 meters and 25 centimeters long. It serves as a photo zone alongside the previously exhibited golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) with its life-size wingspan. According to the museum’s concept, visitors can compare their height and wingspan with the silhouettes of these animals, creating an interactive experience. The “Life in a Tree” exhibition aims to playfully convey to visitors that a tree serves as a habitat and home for various species of wildlife, including animals, plants, and fungi. The researchers have developed a set of wooden figures depicting various living beings, that can be hung on hooks in different spots of a tree. We invite all Uzhhorod residents and city guests, tourists, and nature enthusiasts to explore the “Nature of Transcarpathia” exhibition and attend the events organized by the museum. Your engagement will not only draw more visitors but also foster the development of an appreciation for nature-centric perspectives!
The updated exhibitions are set up within the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband, NABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
