Every year on June 5th, the world community celebrates World Environment Day. The main purpose of the holiday is to stimulate the active work of the world community aimed at maintaining balance in nature and the environment.
On June 6th, TRENCSY teachers held an environmental event dedicated to World Environment Day. Many guests were invited to the celebration. Among them: Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor of Forestry, Faculty of Geography, Uzhhorod National University Mygal A., member of the public organization of the Transcarpathian Society “Nature Protection” Rishko A.; Head of the Nature Branch of the Department of History and Local Lore of the Transcarpathian Regional Museum named after T. Legotskyj – Bilanych M.; senior employee of the Nature Branch of the Department of History and Local Lore of the Transcarpathian Regional Museum named after. T. Legotskyj – Ruslana Dzhahman.

The holiday began with the environmental challenge “Plant a tree – protect the planet” which will be patriotic because the alley of thujas was planted in honor of the soldiers of the Transcarpathian 128th Mountain Assault Brigade. Soldiers of this brigade, who are currently on vacation, joined the planting of trees with young people. Competitions among young people began after the trees were planted. Pupils of TRENCSY and children from IDPs began actively doing adventure game tasks prepared for them by the teachers. At the first stop “Is that right?” students sought the correct answers. At the “Learn to properly sort garbage” stop, children learned waste management. And at the stop “Medicinal plants of the ecological center” that wasn’t only necessary to name the plant, but also to find it on the territory and take pictures. No less interesting was the stop of entomologists “Let’s save the bee – let’s save the planet!” where young people showed their knowledge of insects. At the stop “Sets of proverbs about the environment” young naturalists showed that folk art also includes a love of nature. The young researchers showed their ingenuity and imagination at the stop “How would I save the planet”. Children were using different professions and found extraordinary ways to save the planet.

It was nice to see how actively the young people got to work. “We all need to start thinking and acting” – the teachers urged their students. At the environmental event, there was fun, excitement, good mood. Each team was awarded diplomas for active participation in cognitive competitions. Everyone must find ways to better the environmental conditions. It would be much better if someone clean up the garbage in their yard, and some just will not leave any signs of their stay in nature. However, together we’ll make the environment better, and we won’t forget about its protection and preservation of natural resources. Our future depends on us!

The event was held in cooperation with the Transcarpathian Regional Ecological and Naturalistic Center for Students Youth (TRENCSY) and the Interreligious and Environmental Civil Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) under the project “Responsibility for Creation and Women of the Carpathians” in cooperation with partnership support of the Archdiocese of Bamberg (Erzbistum Bamberg), the Diocese of Würzburg (Bistum Würzburg) and Renovabis (Organization for Assistance to Eastern Europe from the Catholic Church in Germany).
