From July 23th to July 24th, Within the frames of the Syunik-Development NGO’s Environmental Education and Awareness Building in Vayots Dzor Region of Armenia and in Zakarpatia Region of Ukraine, and Social Development projects 2-days eco seminar-camp was organized at Siranush Camp located in Yeghegis gorge. The target group was the youth in Vayots Dzor.
The project aimed at increasing awareness among youth in Vayots Dzor about local and global environmental problems.
The project coordinator Gohar Hunanyan welcomed all the participants and wished them all success.
Afterwards, the coordinator of Syunik-Development NGO, Tatev Harutyunyan, presented NGO’s history, mission, social, environmental projects and other activities as a whole.
The trainer of the program was Lusine Karapetyan, the founder of TNAC-Training in Non-Formal Education and Active Citizenship. She spoke on the following topics:
• the waste we produce,
• waste management options,
• the effect of the plastic on Earth,
• how to refuse plastic,
• global warming and our steps,
• urban horticulture,
• food waste management and compost,
• ecological footprint calculation.
Within the frame of the project the following topics were presented by the founder of the Institute for Ecological and Religious Studies Alexander Bokotey:
• Environmental situation and issues in Uzhgorod,
• The best experiences and practices implemented at the local level.
The other day, the participants did cleaning operations on the way to the Yeghegis Jewish cemetery and Zorats Church. They had an opportunity to get also information about the historical and cultural sites of those places.
As a result, the project played great role in increasing the awareness of the waste management and nature conservation among the youth in Vayots Dzor.
