Understanding the importance of energy conservation and responsible resource usage isn’t just about saving money; it’s a crucial step toward preserving the environment for future generations. Recognizing this, Oksana Kremin, Head of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection and an IRCEF expert, conducted an engaging environmental training session titled “Energy Saving at Home” for the young ecologists of PADIUN. The primary objective of the event was to elucidate the significance of reducing energy consumption for society and instill a sense of responsibility for the environment among the participants. Ms. Kremin approached the topic in an engaging manner, addressing the energy-saving challenges in Ukraine that require the collective efforts of every citizen. Simple actions like turning off lights on time, using energy-efficient bulbs, and being mindful of water usage are steps toward building a society that uses natural resources judiciously and economically, without compromising human health or the environment. The workshop included well-chosen video content, presentations, and an engaging question-and-answer form that was well-received by the attendees. The youngsters acquired practical methods for using power, water, and gas effectively through interactive exercises and didactic materials, thereby reducing energy losses in their homes.
Participants proved their gained knowledge through environmental activities such as “Energy Sources” and “State of My Dream,” as well as by answering questions in the engaging “Energy Scrabble” quiz. Each group presented a mini-project titled “Energy Saving at Home – Taking Care of Yourself, Your Family, and the World Around You,” which provided practical energy-saving recommendations. In group discussions, the students underlined that only a common aim and acceptance of responsibility for one’s actions can address socially significant environmental concerns and lead to a sustainable, “green” lifestyle. The workshop closed with the “Tree of Expectations and Results” activity, which represented the workshop’s beneficial consequences. As a keepsake, participants got a magnet depicting energy-saving lights to demonstrate their dedication to the issue.
Overall, the training session was a great success. The students took an active interest in energy-saving subjects, learned important skills, and acted as responsible citizens. Their expressed desire to continue practicing energy saving at home and sharing awareness demonstrates the training’s long-term impact.
