July 3rd is celebrated as World Day without Polyethylene. Various research and educational events and flash mobs are held in many countries in order to draw attention to the problems of pollution of our planet with plastic and polyethylene waste.
The first thing each of us can do is to reduce the amount of plastic in our lives: limit the use of disposable tableware, use linen or fibra bags, etc. instead of plastic ones. For this purpose, researchers of the nature department of the department of Transcarpathian Museum of the Local Lore named after T. Legotskyj, together with experts from the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies, organized an interesting educational event for Uzhgorod children and children of IDPs, during which they talked about the impact of waste on the environment, in particular on birds. Then Ruslana Dzhahman, a senior researcher in the nature department, demonstrated different types of eco-bags and showed how jeans material can be turned into a bag. After the theoretical part, all participants had the opportunity to show their imagination and paint their own bags, which can be used for trips to the store, or to the library. Endowed children created wonderful products and received a lot of positive emotions from the drawing process. At the same time, most of them used patriotic yellow and blue colors.
The event was held within the framework of the project “Responsibility for Creation and Women of the Carpathians”, which is implemented by the Interreligious and environmental civil forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) (headed by Alexander Bokotey) under the project “Responsibility for Creation and Women of the Carpathians” in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Bamberg (Erzbistum Bamberg), the Diocese of Würzburg (Bistum Würzburg) and Renovabis (Organization for Assistance to Eastern Europe from the Catholic Church in Germany).
