The zest of Uzhhorod has long been the mini-sculptures located throughout the city in memory of a certain event, person, etc. One of them is dedicated to the naturalist Istvan Laudon and is installed on the fence of the garden of exotic plants, which he laid at the end of the 19th century.
Istvan Loudon was born on August 20, 1862 in Uzhhorod. He received his high education in Budapest and worked as a teacher at the Uzhhorod Gymnasium for almost all his life. This prominent resident of Uzhhorod can be called an example of a person responsible for God’s Creation – Nature, because of his traveling, his passion for botany and nature as a whole and as a member of the council of the Roman Catholic Church, he instilled this love in his students. Istvan Laudon was also the class teacher of ornithologist Oleksandr Grabar, who is known not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.

All these facts from the life of a prominent Uzhhorod native were learned by the students of the 11th grade of secondary school No. 12 of Uzhhorod together with their teacher M. D. Neher during a tour of the exhibition “The multifaceted life of Istvan Laudon”, which was conducted for them by the senior researcher of the museum Ruslana Dzhahman on September 16. The exhibition was created in the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Local Lore named after T. Legotsky together with the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies and the Zoological Museum of UzhNU.

High school students also got to know the flora and fauna of Transcarpathia in the “Nature of Transcarpathia” exhibition and viewed the “Terrible Realities of War” exhibition at the bastion of the Uzhhorod Castle. The employees of the museum emphasized that the Russian-Ukrainian war kills not only people but also the nature of Ukraine.

The event was held within the framework of the project “Churches, religious and public organizations for the environmental of national minorities”, implemented by the Interreligious and Environmental Civil Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) (headed by Alexander Bokotey) in cooperation with the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband NABU International) under with the support of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswärtiges Amt #CivilSocietyCooperation) project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
