Since 1960, every decade has been warmer than the previous one,\” said Gavin Schmidt, head of the Goddard Space Research Institute (NASA affiliate). The study points out that in 2019, the average world temperature was 0.95 degrees higher than the average in the 20th century, and 1.11 degrees higher than in the 19th century. \”Rising temperatures in the atmosphere and ocean are causing continued mass loss (glaciers) in Greenland and the Antarctic, and an increase in extreme events such as heat waves, fires, heavy rainfall,\” NASA said.

Previously, UNIAN reported that in Europe, 2019 was the warmest in history, with an average temperature of 1.2 degrees higher than in the period 1981-2010.
