Synevyr Library Commemorates International Day of Peace

The Synevyr village library hosted a special event for children in honor of the International Day of Peace, featuring the participation of Lyubov Hrechyn, an expert from the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe, and Olha Stets, the library’s head.

September 21st marks the International Day of Peace worldwide, and this year, the occasion held profound significance for Ukraine. We have encountered challenges that many had never contemplated before. It has become abundantly clear that true happiness lies in peace – peace within our beloved Ukraine, within our families, and within our hearts.

Peace holds immense importance for our environment as well, and the evidence is undeniable. War inflicts irreparable harm on the environment, resulting in direct damage to components such as air and soil quality, depletion of forest resources, water pollution, and more. Animals suffer casualties and displacement due to hostilities and explosions. During the event, participants shared their thoughts and visions on the preservation of our planet’s natural beauty and that of Ukraine. They delved into the crucial roles played by clean air, soil, and water, exploring methods to safeguard these vital resources even in times of conflict. As the event concluded, children created symbolic birds of peace, upon which they inscribed their heartfelt wishes for Ukraine.

The event was held as part of the cooperation of the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU BundesverbandNABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
