The students from the “Prostir” after-school education center in Korolevo are delving into the realm of bat research and conservation in their region. In pursuit of this, the children engaged in various educational activities designed to foster their comprehensive development. Just recently, the dedicated teaching staff and the members of the “Young Foresters” club, organized an educational tour to the historic center in Novoselytsia. During their visit, they explored the ethnographic museum and the 17th-century Assumption Church, for which they had specially crafted bat boxes to provide shelter for these amazing creatures.
The children gained insight into the profound connection between the church and bats through the informative classes led by teacher Lidia Zeikan. She used materials provided by the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies to educate the students about bat biodiversity, their unique lifestyles, and the threat of their extinction due to human negligence, as well as instructing them on building bat boxes. During the tour, the guide not only offered valuable background information but also encouraged the students to actively share their newfound knowledge about bats with the guides, enabling them to educate subsequent visitors about the importance of these beneficial creatures.
The event was held within the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband, NABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
