Preschoolers Embark on Their First Biodiversity Exploration

On September 12th, a captivating eco-educational event tailored for children unfolded within the charming confines of “Synevyr” kindergarten, featuring the esteemed presence of Lyubov Hrechyn, an expert from the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies (IERS). The expert provided insights into the class proceedings and shared the profound impact it had on these young nature enthusiasts.

Fostering a deep appreciation for nature should commence in the earliest years of life. In an effort to acquaint the children with their natural surroundings, they embarked on a virtual woodland adventure led by their dedicated instructor, Yana Popadynets. The children were enthralled by the captivating and varied displays of flora and fauna depicted in vibrant pictures and photographs. Eagerly, they identified flowers, animals, and birds they had encountered either in their classroom studies or during their outdoor escapades. To underscore the importance of preserving the beauty of nature, the teachers conveyed valuable lessons to the children through straightforward and relatable examples: refraining from littering, discouraging the breaking of tree branches, and emphasizing the significance of not plucking or trampling upon flowers.

In a delightful finale, each child had the opportunity to assume the persona of their favorite animal. Armed with paper masks and colored pencils, they vividly showcased the unique behaviors, movements, and characteristics of their chosen creatures, whether it was mimicking a graceful walk, a playful leap, or any other distinctive feature. Throughout the lesson, the children also recited poems, sang melodious songs inspired by nature, and danced with exuberance, blending enjoyment with invaluable learning experiences.

The event was held as part of the cooperation of the Interreligious and Environmental Civil Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) (headed by Olexander Bokotey) with the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU BundesverbandNABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
