Garbage is a ubiquitous problem that has captured Ukrainian cities and villages. Some people deal with household waste not only with a responsible attitude to its treatment but also look for creative approaches. A good example is the parish of the Lord Ascension in the village of Mala Roztoka in the Khust region. More than 30 children took part in a workshop “Give a second life to waste”.
The children made original flower vases and pencil cases with simple things like water jars, wooden coffee or tea sticks, colored ribbons, and felt-tip pens. Each participant showed creativity, and most primarily – realized the importance of reducing waste. There was talk about the proper sorting of garbage and sending it for recycling during the lesson.
It isn’t the first time that Mrs. Natalia Stetso, the coordinator of the event and an expert of the Interreligious and Environmental Civil Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF), holds such events. She is convinced that such workshops are a very effective educational method that helps children have fun with their peers, show their creativity, and at the same time firmly understand that nature is not a trash bin!
The event was held within the framework of the project “Responsibility for Creation and Women of the Carpathians” implemented by the Interreligious and Environmental Civil Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) (headed by Alexander Bokotey) and the Ecological Commission of Mukachevo Greek Catholic Eparchy in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Bamberg (Erzbistum Bamberg), the Diocese of Würzburg (Bistum Würzburg) and Renovabis (Organization for Assistance to Eastern Europe from the Catholic Church in Germany).
