Integrating Environmental Education in Classroom Workshops

Учні першого класу Ясінянської ЗСО І-ІІІ №1 під керівництвом вчительки Марії Кеслер використовують різноманітне опале листя для виготовлення аплікацій і паралельно вивчають рослини рідного краю.

During the autumn season, eco-workshops become the most thrilling events for children. The leaves of various tree types paint the landscape in all the splendid hues of fall. This is when the 1st-grade students at Yasinya Secondary School No. 1 harness the gifts of nature to craft depictions of diverse and occasionally whimsical animals, portraits, and fantastical creations. Assisting them in this artistic endeavor is their teacher, Maria Kesler.

This series of activities serves to foster the students’ imagination, making it more engaging and aiding in the memorization of tree and bush names. It also helps them become adept at identifying plants based on their distinctive leaves. Furthermore, environmental education is a significant component of the learning process. In this particular class, Maria Kesler, in addition to the workshop, delivered a talk to the children about composting. She took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of preserving the ozone layer and reiterated the prohibition on burning leaves during the autumn season.

The event was held within the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU BundesverbandNABU International), project coordinators  Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
