Innovative thematic class: “Wintering birds”

Natalia Stetso, a teacher at Velykoroztitsky Primary School, an active volunteer with the Ecological Commission of MGCE, and an expert with the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe, recently conducted a workshop on creating bird-themed postcard applications for the senior group “Sunshine”. The workshop aimed to educate the children on how they can assist birds during the winter.

An innovative class focusing on “Wintering Birds” was organized, using didactic materials, board games, and information posters to make environmental protection information more accessible and engaging for preschoolers. Natalia Stetso shared insights with the children about which birds stay in Ukraine during the winter, the challenges they encounter, and how people can aid birds in surviving the cold and hunger. She demonstrated the arrangement of bird feeders and clarified what is essential and strictly prohibited to include in them for various bird species. Natalia Stetso proposed that learners make unique postcard applications regarding birds to reinforce the knowledge obtained in class. Children glued paper feathers to card blanks, taking turns sharing their winter bird-helping experiences and talking about how they hope to assist our feathered friends this year.

The event was held within the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband, NABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
