We all owe our lives to the planet – the beautiful and one and only – Earth. Our planet is the greatest mystery and miracle. It holds the inmost mysteries from the beginning of life to the future destinies of mankind. Everything in our house is interconnected, everything depends on each other: if the sun goes out, everything will freeze and be covered with darkness; if air and water disappear – there will be nothing to breathe and nothing to drink; if plants disappear, animals and humans will have nothing to eat… Therefore, preserving nature means preserving life. We are the saviors and guardians of our huge house called “Earth”. Its fate is in our hands.

On October 7, 2022, experts of the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies and teachers of the Transcarpathian Regional Ecological and Naturalistic Center for Students Youth, Olga Velychkanych and Oksana Kremin held an eco-educational event for students of secondary school #7 in Mukachevo. The participants of the event had to do a lot of work – to solve interesting ecological tasks and puzzles, guess riddles about the flora and fauna, demonstrate knowledge about the winged friends of our region, consolidate knowledge about edible and poisonous mushrooms, move from one station to another. Participants received points for the successful completion of tasks at each station of the game.
A whole hour of fun, excitement, good mood, the spirit of empathy, leadership, and victory – this is the result of the game journey of the environmental quest “Our home is nature, so let’s take care of it!”. For active participation in the quest, the teams were awarded Certificates for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. We hope that the acquired knowledge will once again convince young people of the importance of preserving the biodiversity of our region and the planet as a whole, and also that not only the participants of the event but also all people on planet Earth will live by observing the laws of nature! Let’s not forget that we are part of nature, so we must do everything possible and impossible to preserve life on our blue planet!

The event was held within the framework of the project “Churches, religious and public organizations for the eco-education of national minorities”, which is implemented by the Interreligious and Environmental Civil Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) (head by Alexander Bokotey) in cooperation with the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband NABU International ) with the support of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswärtiges Amt #AA_Kultur #CivilSocietyCooperation ) project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
