Ecological class: “Life of forest animals: discovering the secrets of the forest”

Experts from the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum for Eastern Europe (IRCEF) recently conducted an educational session focused on the preservation of forests, which serve as crucial habitats for rare animal species, for primary school students at Uzhhorod Gymnasium #13. The class commenced with a warm welcome from an IRCEF eco-trainer who introduced the children to the significance of environmental observances celebrated in October. These observances, such as World Animal Day (October 4) and World Habitat Day (October 6), were highlighted along with their stories, ideals, and objectives. In celebration of these important environmental occasions, the expert invited the students on an engaging virtual journey through the forest to discover fascinating facts about the animals residing there.

The primary focus of the lesson was to acquaint the students with the forest ecosystem and its vital role in human life. The session comprised an interactive presentation, entertaining games, and quizzes, all designed to enhance the children’s understanding of the topic. The students eagerly shared their knowledge about trees and forest animals. With the guidance of the expert, the children delved into the characteristics of each species, exploring their unique features and roles within the forest’s rich biodiversity.

As the class drew to a close, students engaged in individual creative activities where they crafted applications. Each participant selected an animal they had encountered during the virtual forest tour and assembled its image using colored paper puzzles. This eco-educational session not only expanded the children’s understanding of forests and their inhabitants but also served as a wellspring of inspiration for future research and environmental advocacy. May this be just the commencement of the children’s fascination with the natural world and their determination to contribute to its safeguarding.

The event was held within the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU BundesverbandNABU International), project coordinators  Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
