An environmental and educational session was organized for the children of the Roma minority in Velykyi Bereznyi village, focusing on the preservation of Carpathian forest biodiversity. The event was conducted by Olha-Polina Lendel, an IRCEF eco-trainer and volunteer of the MGCE’s Ecological Commission, and the wife of Father Mykhailo Lendel, the senior priest of the parish of Blessed Seferino Jimenez Malia and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Olha-Polina Lendel shared essential forest behavior rules, using vivid illustrations to enhance understanding. The children actively participated in discussions, pinning thematic images on the board to better remember the information. She highlighted the impact of improper human activity on the extinction of various animal and plant species and emphasized the importance of biodiversity for any ecosystem.
Children engaged in didactic games such as “Yes or No” and “Who Lives Where?” and also completed tasks in the coloring book “How Does Mariannochka Behave in the Forest?” provided by the MGCE’s Ecological Commission. Mrs. Olha-Polina said that the children did an excellent job, beautifully coloring the pages and displaying their creative skills.
The event was held with the participation of children of the Roma national minority in the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband, NABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
