Biology teacher of Turye-Remetivskyi ZZSO and eco-trainer of IRCEF Orysia Krechko introduced seventh-graders of the school to the diverse and fascinating world of birds of Ukraine. Through interactive tasks, bright posters from IERS, educational stories and research games, children discovered interesting facts from the life of birds and learned about their role in the natural balance.
Schoolchildren studied the diversity of birds, guessed the species by descriptions, examined bird eggs and nests, analyzed diets and created food chains. And most importantly, they understood how important it is to preserve bird diversity for the sake of ecological balance and the future of the planet.
It was separately emphasized that interaction with nature, bird watching and participation in such educational and cognitive activities are an important element of nature therapy. They contribute to children’s emotional recovery, reduce stress, and develop a sense of inner balance, which is especially important in the conditions of life during and after war. Such activities help students feel a connection with living nature, which becomes a source of support, peace, and restoration.
The event was held as part of the project “Birdwatching as an element of nature therapy”, implemented by the Interreligious and environmental civil forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) (headed by Oleksandr Bokotey) in cooperation with the Commission on Ecology of the IRCEF and the nature protection departments of the Churches with the partner support of the Archdiocese of Bamberg (Erzbistum Bamberg), project leader Nataliya Kulya.
