Oksana Kremin and Olha Velychkanych, experts of the IRCEF and active volunteers of the Ecological Commission of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Eparchy, led an engaging environmental quest titled “Journey to the Realm of Biodiversity” for children at the Holy Trinity parish camp. Throughout this educational competition, participants demonstrated their knowledge by completing various tasks at locations such as “Environmentally Responsible Behavior,” “Forest Biodiversity,” “What Grows There?”, “Winged Friends,” “Animal World Records,” “Guess the Plant by Smell,” and “Decoder.”
Oksana Kremin praised the quest, highlighting its engaging and informative nature. She noted that an atmosphere of excitement and healthy competition pervaded the event. The educators successfully conveyed to the children, through playful activities, the crucial message that human actions pose a significant threat to the planet’s biodiversity and that its preservation is a key goal of nature conservation. Angelina, one of the quest participants, emphasized the importance of unity with nature to secure a better future for all of us as human beings. Mrs. Kremin reassured young people that protecting and enhancing Earth’s biodiversity can have a transformative impact on wildlife. The participants consolidated their newfound knowledge by devising their strategies for biodiversity conservation, including:
- Protecting the flora and fauna of their region
- Avoiding littering and sorting household waste
- Using water resources economically
- Studying and learning more about regional biodiversity
- Participating in biodiversity protection activities
The event was held in the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband, NABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
