An eco-activity session at the volunteer center “Everyone can help”

Students from the Berehovo “Platan” lyceum visited the “Everyone Can Help” volunteer center during the summer school. The lyceum students walked around the count’s yard, accompanied by teachers and volunteer assistants, and listened to an educational environmental lecture by Leonid Pokrytyuk, a senior ornithologist at the IRCEF.

Guests were given a tour of the volunteer center’s antique buildings and artillery shelter, as well as the feathered wards that Leonid and other volunteers look after. The ornithologist discussed the challenges of caring for various bird species as well as the challenging lives of each animal in the center. The seminar also included the following general information about Transcarpathian birds:

  • the distinction between mature and young birds;
  • stork food;
  • threats to birds living close by to humans;
  • bird voice communication;
  • migratory species trips.

The students played eco-games and proved their knowledge by answering questions about birds in the 700-year-old vault. All participants got memorable presents (stickers, eco-pens, leaflets, and booklets from the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies) at the end of the session.

The event was held in the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and environmental civil forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) (led by Olexander Bokotey) the German Nature Conservation Union  (NABU BundesverbandNABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
