Yulia Kalka, a 10th-grade student at Vasyl Hrendzhi-Donskyi Lyceum in Uzhhorod, stands out as a committed supporter of environmental causes, consistently urging her fellow students to join in these initiatives. This year, Yulia showcased her dedication by penning a research paper focused on the significance of urban green spaces. In her work, she actively underscored the importance of each tree, emphasizing the valuable role they play in the urban landscape. Beyond her academic pursuits, Yulia is a regular participant in various environmental events, advocating for initiatives such as primeval forest protection, reduction of environmental pollution, and the preservation of endangered species like bats and birds. One of Yulia’s recent endeavors involved sharing her knowledge with 6th-grade students, teaching them how to leverage their own gadgets to assess the environmental benefits of trees. This hands-on approach not only empowers younger students with practical skills but also fosters a deeper understanding of the impact trees have on the environment.
For those interested in delving deeper into Yulia’s research, a presentation is available to provide additional insights into her findings:
The Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies, along with the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe and the MGCE’s Ecological Commission, extends their gratitude to active educators, particularly Hanna Popovych, and students like Yulia who exemplify a profound commitment to the planet. Their efforts not only contribute to the preservation of the Earth but also inspire others to take an active role in environmental protection.
