Eco-educational quest about the flora of the native land in Velykyi Bereznyi

IRCEF volunteers and activists of the Ecological Commission of the MGCE, Olha-Polina Lendel and Father Mykhailo Lendel, conducted an eco-educational quest for children of the Roma national minority in Velykyi Bereznyi. The event took place in the arboretum park, a monument of landscape art of local importance in Ukraine. The quest aimed to teach children to recognize different types of plants, demonstrate the value of each, and foster a careful attitude towards the environment.

IRCEF volunteers and activists of the Ecological Commission of the MGCE, Olha-Polina Lendel and Father Mykhailo Lendel, conducted an eco-educational quest for children of the Roma national minority in Velykyi Bereznyi. The event took place in the arboretum park, a monument of landscape art of local importance in Ukraine. The quest aimed to teach children to recognize different types of plants, demonstrate the value of each and foster a careful attitude toward the environment.

The participants were divided into two teams and tasked with searching the park for specific plants depicted on cards. When the children found each plant, they were asked to represent the matching bush or tree in a unique way, and they received points for their work. The schoolchildren eagerly shared their knowledge and listened attentively to additional interesting facts about nature from Father Mykhailo and his wife. The children’s attention was particularly captivated by the globe-shaped fountain, which Father Mykhailo elaborated on, emphasizing the importance of a responsible and careful attitude towards our planet.

At the end of the competition, the teams were rewarded with sweet prizes for their active participation, celebrating their newfound knowledge and enthusiasm for the environment.

The event was held in the framework of cooperation between the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) headed by Olexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband, NABU International), project coordinators Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU), and Nataliya Kulya (IRCEF).
